Issue - Installation and Set up.

This discussion thread covers issues related to the installation of the Scantron/ASISTS software and the setup of the hardware.  Please note down any issues, though we should let you know that some or most of these issues will have to resolved with Scantron.  But we are happy to relay your questions to Scantron, so please note down any issues you are having in detail.

The instructions for installing the software were sent to you last week.  For your convenience, we have posted them below.

We are still trying to get the scanner and computer to communicate properly.
The Scantron Opscan 4ES is configured as follows: COM5: 9600 bps, 7 data bits, Odd Parity, 2 stop bits.

When we click the “Start Scanning” button in the OBS software, the OBS software displays the following: Error Detected: No Scanners were found connected to the computer.
We understand the scanner needs to be in OMR mode. We'll try that today.
Has anyone had a successful run?

We are having problems with the "Overprint" button. When we left-click the overprint button we get the following error: Unable to locate the merge print program (C:\program files (x86)\scantron\scantron designexpert MC\mergeclient.exe) at its expected location.

We are using Windows 7 Enterprise 32bit. If I create a "program files (x86) folder and copy the scantron folder to it... I get an the following error: Application license is invalid

We have installed the scanner, the LAC Asists OBS software, and also the Scantron DesignExpert software. I have also contacted Scantron Support with no luck.

Help!!

ccaccia,
You didn't mention it; the ScanTools Plus Link Runtime also need to be installed.

We've gotten the Overprint part to work. We are stuck with the issue of the software not getting the scanner to scan the bubble sheets. We've installed the required software on 2 computers connected to the same scanner. We'll try a different scanner to be sure the first scanner is not at fault.

Yes... I also installed ScanTools Plus Link Runtime on the PC. All software on the CD has been installed. Still running into the error. Any Suggestions?

I have a response from Scantron re the Overprint issue. He suggests:
I would start by uninstalling Design Expert.

Then I would try to figure out what was manually copied into the Program Files(x86) and manually delete them.

Next, install the merge client using a merge client license key.

Please let me know if there are any questions.

We found out from Scantron that the OBS software was not written to work with the OCR OPScan 4ES scanner. While it would work with the image reading Insight 4ES, serial ports are required. Our computers have USB ports.
We'll need a software patch or other work-around.

Venu,

I have tried uninstalling the DesignExpert and reinstalling the LAC_OBS without the designexpert. I tried doing this while I had the DesignExpert Support on the phone. As far as the Program Files (x86) folder... It's a 32bit system, so by default that folder is not created in the root of C:\. 32bit just creates the "Program Files" folder without the (x86). I created a (x86) folder to try as a work around. The overprint feature, by default is expecting Mergeclient.exe to be there. I don't see any editable settings that would allow me to change the directory LAC OBS, expects the mergeclient.exe to be in. It seems to me that the issue is with the LAC_OBS program, not neccesarily the DesignExpert. The folks from Scantron support suggested that we get in touch with the programer of the LAC_OBS software. Any thoughts?

I have an answer to the Overprint issue from the Scantron OBS programmer.

The path to the merge client executable differs between W-32 and W-64.

Assuming the merge client program has been installed (MergeClient.exe should be in C:\Program Files (x86)\Scantron\Scantron DesignExpert MC):

Open the LAC_OBS_Settings.xml file (in C:\Scantron\LAC_OBS) with NotePad and change the path in the MergeClient tag from

C:\Program Files (x86)\Scantron\Scantron DesignExpert MC

to
C:\Program Files\Scantron\Scantron DesignExpert MC
